Monorail is a railed transport system that comprises self-propelled trains of carriages traveling on a singular track (as opposed to all other modes of rail that use at least two rails).

Monorail tracks by their nature cannot achieve grade crossings and therefore will always be grade-separated. Most of the time, monorail tracks are suspended in the air.
